GETTING A PAYPOWER CARD

The PayPower Visa® Prepaid Card gives you the power to make purchases worldwide anywhere Visa cards are accepted. The PayPower Card is reloadable, so you can add money to the card over and over again. With the PayPower Card, you can make purchases in stores or shop securely online, by phone, or through mail order purchases. The PayPower Card can also be used at millions of ATMs worldwide.

Note: Registration is required for ATM use, to reload the card, and for certain internet purchases.

The PayPower Card can be purchased online at www.paypower.ca or at participating PayPower merchant locations (Click here to find a store near you). When you purchase a PayPower Card you will need to activate the card by visiting www.paypower.ca or calling 1 (866) 215-3758.
You must be a Canadian citizen or Canadian resident over 18 with a verifiable physical street address (P.O. Boxes are not acceptable) to register your card. During the registration process, you will be required to provide information that will allow us to confirm your identity.

No. The PayPower Card is not a credit card or a gift card - it is prepaid card. To use it, you must first load money onto your PayPower Card. You can add money at participating merchant locations. When you use the PayPower Card, the amount of your purchase is automatically deducted from the card balance.
 

USING MY PAYPOWER CARD

Go to www.paypower.ca or call the 24-hour automated phone system toll free at 1 (866) 215-3758 to activate your card.
Registering your PayPower Card allows you to enjoy a full range of benefits including accessing cash withdrawals at ATMs, completing card-to-card transfers and reloading your card at your convenience.
Once you complete the registration process online at www.paypower.ca or by calling 1 (866) 215-3758 you will receive a personalized card with your name on it in the mail. You will need to activate the personalized card once you receive it. After the personalized card is activated the balance from your old card will be transferred to your new personalized card. Your old card will no longer be usable and should be destroyed.
After registration, you can use the PayPower Card to obtain cash from any Automated Teller Machine (ATM) with the Visa acceptance mark. All ATM transactions are treated as cash withdrawals. You will need to enter your PIN number when prompted, and select “chequing” to access money. A fee applies to each ATM transaction in addition to any fees the ATM terminal owner may impose.
After registering your card, login to your card account online and select Account Settings under the My Account tab or contact the 24-hour automated phone system toll-free at 1 (866) 215-3758 to choose a new PIN.
We recommend taking your Card inside to the gas station cashier to pay.
Yes, but some merchants may place a “hold” in excess of your purchase amount When the total amount due is unknown (for example when you check into a hotel), merchants have the right to pre-authorize the purchase, which puts a hold on the funds. A restaurant, for example, might hold an additional 20% to cover whatever you tip authorize.

CALL US IMMEDIATELY AT 1 (866) 215-3758 if your card is lost or stolen. After you cancel your PayPower Card, a replacement card with the remaining balance will be mailed to you. As long as the lost or stolen PayPower Visa Prepaid Card is reported immediately, you will not be responsible for any unauthorized charges (Note: full reimbursement of any fraudulent charges is provided through the Visa Zero Liability Policy* (see disclosure below for more information). We reserve the right to review any disputed charges based on our risk policy).
If you suspect an error, have questions about a transaction, or wish to dispute a transaction that has posted to your card account, log in to your card account to download a dispute form. You will be required to provide the following information:
  • Your name, address, and phone number
  • Your prepaid card account number
  • A description of the error or the transaction you are unsure about. Explain as clearly as you can why you believe it is an error or why you need more information.
  • The dollar amount of the suspected error
  • Your e-mail address

IMPORTANT!!

No one will ever phone or email you asking for your Reloadable PayPower Visa® Prepaid Card number or a PayPower Reload Pack number. If this occurs, hang up immediately, regardless of what the person on the other end of the phone tells you and call 1 (866) 215 3758 to report this as it is fraud.


Additional tips for protecting yourself against fraud and theft when purchasing Reloadable PayPower Visa® Prepaid Cards and Reload Packs
  1. Never provide your PayPower Reload Pack number (10 digit number under the scratcher on the back of your Reload Pack) to anyone, especially to someone you do not know or trust over the phone. Remember your PayPower Reload Pack is just like cash in your pocket.
  2. When purchasing Reloadable PayPower Visa® Prepaid Cards and PayPower Reload Packs, always inspect the pack being purchased and look for tampering of any kind.
  3. Do not use your Reload Pack to pay taxes, bail bond, fees for winnings, or any other type of payment.
  4. For your Reloadable PayPower Visa® Prepaid Card, never share your PIN (4 digit number used at ATMs) with anybody.
  5. Check account information and transaction history on a regular basis to ensure there are no fraudulent or unauthorized charges on your account.
  6. Protect yourself against fraud; be aware of current fraud trends and know how to protect yourself and your money. Click the below links to learn more about these trends in Canada.
  7. Refuse any offer (Lottery Notice, Product or Service) whereby the purchase of a PayPower Reload pack is required and you are asked to share the PayPower Reload pack number with anybody.
  8. Do not use your PayPower Reload Pack to pay taxes, fees for winnings, or any other type of payment.

Check account information and transaction history on a regular basis to ensure there are no fraudulent or unauthorized charges on your account.

LOADING MONEY


PAYPOWER RELOAD PACK
After registration, you can add money to your PayPower Card at participating merchants by purchasing a PayPower Reload Pack. Load fees and limits vary by merchant. Click here to find a store near you.
The PayPower Reload Pack enables you to reload any PayPower Card.
  • Purchase and load a PayPower Reload Pack at participating merchants and transfer those funds to your card. A reload fee will be added to your purchase.
  • Go to www.paypower.ca/reload or call 1 (866) 215-3758 to apply the funds to your card. You will need the 10-digit number located under the scratch-off on the back of the PayPower Reload Pack and the amount loaded onto the PayPower Reload Pack (excluding the reload fee).
  • The funds will be applied to your PayPower Card.

The minimum amount of the initial value load is $20. The maximum amount of the initial value load is $500. After you successfully register your Card and we have verified your identity, you may value reload at any time. The maximum dollar amount of value reloads you may make in one day is $950.

Interac® Online
Interac® Online is a payment option that allows you to instantly add money from your bank account to your PayPower Card. Once you have a registered PayPower Card you can login to www.paypower.ca/reload, select the Add Money tab and use Interac® Online to add money to your PayPower Card at any time. A $2.50 reload fee will be added to your reload transaction.
Interac® Online allows to you add any amount between $20-$250 (subject to any load limits on your account) from your bank account to your PayPower Card.

There are no overdraft fees. The PayPower Card is a prepaid card – you can only spend the money you have loaded on the card.
 

ONLINE ACCESS AND ALERTS

Visit www.paypower.ca to activate and register your card online and set up online access. You will complete the registration process and be prompted to input your email address and choose a password. You will use this information to login and access your card information online.
With alerts, you automatically get a text message* and/or email when specified card account activity occurs.

*Standard text messaging rates from your wireless service provider may apply.

You can choose from any or all of the following alerts:
  • Daily balance alert
  • Weekly balance alert
  • Transaction alerts – approved or declined transactions, loads, bill payments, etc.
  • Service alerts – password changes, PIN changes, etc.
You can update or change your preferences at any time by logging into your card account.

Note: If you choose to receive text messages, standard text messaging fees may apply.
You can sign up for alerts by logging into your card account online and selecting Account Settings under the My Account tab at www.paypower.ca .
 

SENDING MONEY

Once you've registered your card, you can send money to another PayPower cardholder or receive money from another PayPower cardholder using this feature. It is the quickest, easiest way to send cash to another PayPower cardholder. To send money, simply add recipients to your contact list, select them, enter the amounts to send, and the funds are instantly deducted from your PayPower Card balance and credited to theirs.
You'll need to know the recipient's phone number and the last 4 digits of the PayPower Card number.
You can send or receive up to $250 per day.

The PayPower Card website uses the latest 128-bit encryption technology to secure your card account and personal information online. We follow strict procedures to ensure your card account and personal information is never shared or misused in any way. For more information regarding your privacy, please view our Privacy Policy.

The PayPower Reloadable Visa® Prepaid Card website is best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher, Firefox 25.0 or higher, Safari 5.1 or higher, and Chrome 31.0 or higher.

 

*Your card is subject to the Visa Zero Liability policy, which covers Canada issued cards only and does not apply to ATM or PIN transactions not processed by Visa. Cardholders must establish that the transaction is not their responsibility as per the Cardholder agreement.
